It’s Friday! And that means it’s time for another FAQ, or Friday Asks Questions! I’ve really been enjoying these recurring topics, and I hope you’ll participate in answering the questions with me!
Today’s question:
If you could have a new skill upon waking up tomorrow, what would it be and why?
If I think about where my passions lie, then I suppose I’d want to be able to really draw, or paint good. That way I could create all my own concept art, the covers of my books and maybe even go beyond that and create a graphic novel. I think it’s something I could develop over time, but for now I’ll settle for my comic style. If I do have more time at some point, I do think I want to spend more time to learn the tricks of the trade, however.
So, what about you guys? Would kind of skill would you like to have that you don’t currently have?
Happy Friday!

Jeffrey! Question Friday: “If you could have a new skill upon waking up tomorrow, what would it be and why?” & ” Would [What] kind of skill would you like to have that you don’t currently have?” You are well on your way with your great sketching ability to what you wish for: ” I’d want to be able to really draw, or paint good. That way I could create all my own concept art, the covers of my books and maybe even go beyond that and create a graphic novel.” You are well on your way working hand& hand with the illustrator of your trilogy book covers & the character illustrations such as Lerion Prynn!!! But I sure can understand your desire as an author to hone your skills & creatively express yourself fully with your own covers & illustrations! I am at a loss as to what a “graphic novel” would be. As for myself, I too would want to build on a skill I already have playing the piano & singing. Having learned over a lifetime that my talent for the piano, based on six years of lessons as a boy of 8 to 14, is limited to rote practice, I would like to use that knowledge & learn to play well a less sophisticated instrument such as the trombone. I WOULD LOVE TO PLAY IN A DIXIELAND SMALL BAND new Orleans style old fashioned jazz blues music!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Friday to the “Question Guy” & Bren!!! –Just returned from Geri’s first test! Phil

Hi Phil! The trombone sounds like a great instrument for you! I can already see you playing in a small band and jazz or blues no less!
How was the test for Geri?

Jeffrey, Thanks for the encouragement! I once tried the trombone many years ago. My oldest son, Andrew, took up the trombone in grades 4 to 8. My idea was to learn from him with each lesson. I never got passed his lesson #1!!!!!!!!!!! To my surprise the technique was to place the tongue in two different places or ways to produce TWO DIFFERENT NOTES!!! I could’t do it & gave up!!!!!!!!!! Andrew was good at the trombone. When it came to rent the trombone or buy it, he wanted us to buy it….so we did! When he wanted to quit the instrument & the school band, I said, “No, when we purchased the trombone, you married it!” He played through middle school & quit when he started high school. Geri did well with today’s AM test, like an enema with X-rays. We had to rise at 5:00 AM to get to the hospital for a 9:00 AM test. The hospital is only 1/2 hour away but we have to guard against traffic. The hard part was yesterday with an all day fast of liquids only. Thanks for asking. I will tell Geri. We will celebrate tonight with a pasta dinner & wine from my website
