Last weekend Bren and I went to a book event together with one of our good friends Esther Wagenaar. It was a lot of fun to be there as a blogger and guest for a change, instead as my usual role of writer. Still, the Boek10 event was all about books, and also about new writing contests. I have to say, I was really inspired by the day. So much so that I was writing something completely new, related to my upcoming Kevar stories set in the sameΒ Ley Lines universe as my Scifi trilogy “The Shaedon Resurgence”. And that’s what I wanted to write a little something about: Finding inspiration!
Inspiration comes and goes
The thing with inspiration is that it just pops up whenever it wants and the worst thing you could possibly do is wasting that inspiration by not writing down your ideas and thoughts immediately. Never, ever think: “I’ll remember this and just jot it all down tomorrow.” Even when it’s the middle of the night, keep a pen and notebook handy, or keep your phone close to quickly write down the basics of your idea. I have some regret from not writing down several really good ideas, only to forget the specifics the next day. It’s a horrible thing to let happen, especially when it’s so easily prevented.
So please, don’t be a sucker who lets inspiration come and go. When inspiration grabs you, use it! Even when it later turns out to be the worst idea ever, it’s better to just write down everything that pops up in your brain, instead of letting it go to waste forever! Or even worse, seeing someone become successful with an idea you had years ago! π
Hope you guys have a good Monday!
Happy writing!
