We’re halfway there! Famous words from Bon Jovi’s song “Livin’ on a Prayer” and a song I usually associate with those words, haha. But it’s true, we’re halfway through November and that means I’ve been writing for two weeks straight, doing my minimum of 1,667 words day, but usually well above it.
So how’s it going?
Great! I did have a little dip in my writing on Monday and Tuesday. For some reason I just wasn’t really feeling it. As you can see in the graph below I was really picking up pace and then hit the proverbial dent in the road. But I’m climbing out of it, because I’ve found new inspiration and the story is really starting to go where I wanted it go. And sometimes to get somewhere, you have to write the parts in between too and try and make those interesting too. I’ve learned to skip the most boring parts, but you can’t just time-skip everything. 😉
Nine chapters so far
The entire manuscript counts a total of nine chapters so far. I don’t really know how many I’ll need to tell the entire story, but my current estimate is around twenty-five or so. On average a chapter counts 5,000 words, so that means that by the time NaNoWriMo is done, I’ll have added about ten chapters to the manuscript. I’ll still have quite some writing to do in December and onward. So with a little luck, I’ll have finished the book maybe this year, but in all likelihood it’ll probably be the start of next year. 🙂 And it’ll also mean that this book could potentially become a lot thicker than I had anticipated. Which is good news for fantasy readers, I suppose, haha.
Keeping up the pace
The next two weeks will still be a test of my strength of will and stamina. So far I haven’t taken any days off from writing, but if I want I can take one or two off by now. If not, then I’ll have finished NaNoWriMo earlier, which is also a good thing! I couldn’t keep this up if it weren’t for all the people mentally supporting me and nagging me about when my new book is coming out ;P I just hope it’ll be a story people will actually enjoy, since it’s so completely different from what I did with The Shaedon Resurgence trilogy.
Well, that’s it for this NaNoWriMo update! You can check my daily progress on NaNoWriMo.org , or my Facebook and Instagram pages, where I post my progress every single day!
Happy writing!

Jeffrey, How impressive is that.. for two weeks straight well over your minimum of 1,667 words per day as you participate in NaNoWriMo!!! Consider that “dip” in your productivity as a natural human occurrence. When Abraham Lincoln’s first commander of the entire Union Army, General George McClellan, was not advancing his military forces, Lincoln dubbed McClellan’s actions as having a bout of “the slows”!!!! You need a little of “the slows” to advance!!! With the average chapter of your latest book running 5,000 words, ten chapters by the end of NaNoWriMo will be a very impressive accomplishment!!! That there is time for a day off or so along the way is good & healthy to charge your batteries. LOVE the cat video at the keyboard with coffee cup!!! GO, JEFFREY! YOU’RE DOING IT!!! Phil

Thank you Philip! I hope I’ll manage to pull through to the end of the month, but so far, I’ve got faith in my own abilities and willpower!
