Monday Musings, Week 49, 2022

Hello everyone! It’s been a while since my last Monday Musings, so I thought I’d give it a go from December onward to try and post one again every week, provided I have interesting news to share. Last week has been a good one, with Bren and I working hard on getting things done from our extensive To-Do list for The Green Dream Shop. We even started a new course together for marketing on Instagram, which has been quite insightful thus far. But that’s enough waffling, let’s get down to what this week is going to bring!

Looking back at my 2022 goals

First of all, this week I’m going to take some time to reflect on my annual goals for 2022. As I said in earlier posts this year went far from how I had pictured it, but aMonday Musings #49 2022 lot turned out for the better. When it comes to my goals, however, I feel that this might be the first year in many that I haven’t been able to meet a lot of my goals. This all comes down to a few things that demanded my immediate attention, causing me to either choose to not focus on the goals I had set for myself and refocus my attention and energy on those other tasks at hand. One of the main shifts for me was becoming the #1 supporter for The Green Dream Shop and taking care of all the technical details for the webshop so Bren could focus on her work. Still, I did manage to get some goals done and some will definitely carry over to next year. Like my novel writing.

My year in videogames, music and books

Every year around the first week of December our Dutch radio station Radio 2 has a voting week for the ultimate top 2000 list. I usually try to vote and I’ve been at it for a bit now. You can vote for a maximum of 35 songs that you deem are the greatest of all time. I’ve gradually been adding songs and, man, it’s hard! I love music so much that it’s almost torture to only choose 35, haha. On the other hand, every year is another chance to choose some different songs from the previous and I love making a mix between “mainstream” music and my much more obscure taste in music, like VGM (video game music) and a fair share of metal. Not exactly the type of music that’s being broadcasted on the radio.

When it comes to videogames I’ve only played a few games that were actually released this year and were a day 1 buy for me. I rarely do this nowadays and after buying Pokémon Scarlet & Violet I’m definitely going to be more cautious about day 1 purchases. Having said that, I’ve been enjoying a lot of retro games and several indie titles that I really loved.

Last, but not least: books. I’ve been doing a bit more reading, but my reading goal is one I won’t make this year for the first time in many years. I simply couldn’t find the time to focus on reading, or I should say, I couldn’t find the focus to read. I am currently focussed on re-reading Seneca. Also, I’m extremely late to the party, but I’ve started reading the Harry Potter novels and have almost finished the first novel in the series.

Blogs about Yule

For The Green Dream Blog I intend to write a bunch of blogs about Yule. This Pagan festivity is what X-mas is really based on and I’ll be diving into some of its history, as well as some of the rituals that are part of it. I’m really excited to start writing blogs about this and other subjects! It’s going to be fun to dig into some new areas for me as I feel there’s so much for me to explore when it comes to Pagan ritual and traditional, green witchcraft.

As you can see, there’s quite a bit of content writing for me to do! I’m really excited to finally give The Green Dream Blog the attention it deserves and it feels quite natural to start now, instead of waiting until January. Because why wait when you can start now?

Happy Monday!

  1. Jeffrey, As you said, your goals for 2022 took a big shift supporting The Green Dream Shop with all the tech details & more! But you did fit in time to vote for those 35 songs on Radio 2, play retro games & indie titles, re-reading Seneca, plus adding a Harry Potter novel!!! I look forward to your writing about Yule with Pagan festivals & witchcraft! Phil

    • Hey Phil! Yes, I somehow managed to cram in all that while having an office job. Supporting Bren’s dream with the shop strangely is giving me a lot of energy, but at the same time I have to be careful not to overexert myself, which is one of the reasons my novel writing time has been so minimal. All in due time!
