NaNoWriMo Update #4

We’re almost there now! Today I finally managed to get the 40K Words badge, which was one of two still left to get for NaNoWriMo. The last one is winning this edition. 80% of the way, I’m almost there, but man, it’s getting hard for me to keep up this pace. I know I’ll pull through though, thanks to all the support I’ve been getting.

40K words

The most recent badge I got today is the on for 40K words. I’m 13 chapters into the story. I’ve redone some of the plotting and it makes me think that I should be able to finish the story maybe in 20 or so chapters. I just feel that we’re really in the mid-story now and there’s a lot of stuff going on with Fudgey and his friends as they get more caught up in the underworld of the city. There’s been a couple of deaths, some fights and a lot of blood (you can thank my obsession for exploding heads for that 😛 ).

Pulling through

I think I’ll end somewhere around chapter 15 for NaNoWriMo. Then I’ll still have some writing to do, but I’ll do it at a slower pace. What writing around 1.667 words a day has taught me is that it can be quite daunting to actually do it. Sometimes I’ve been staring at the screen for a long time, hoping I’d finally reach the right amount of words, other times the words just kept flowing. What I do know is that I’ll have to keep my regular writing times and try to do at least 500 words a day. 500 words is ridiculously easy to do, compared to 1.667. And a sense of flow is always good to have.

Another thing that still holds true is that I love writing at night. Usually I’d sit down shortly after dinner and write. I don’t know what it is, but I love writing when it’s dark. Maybe that’s because my stories always have a slight dark undertone 😉

So, just a week left now, and I really hope I’ll make it. If all goes well I’ll finish early. If not, then I’ll surely finish in time and I’ll have gained a new experience as a winner of NaNoWriMo. I am planning to introduce all of you to some of the characters in my new story, so that’s what I’ll be up to after this and of course, December is always a busy month. I’ll be closing the year in books, games, movies and of course my personal growth and reflect on my goals and look forward to next year!

How are you all doing?

Happy writing!

  1. Jeffrey, The 40K Words Badge! One badge to go! From all you said about this experience with its highs & lows in word output, YOU WILL DO THIS! You can taste the NaNoWriMo honors already!!! Whether you coast in to 50,000 words or finish early or go beyond, you have performed so well that victory is the only acceptable end to NaNoWriMo 2019 !!!!!!!!!!!!! After 13 chapters, Fudgey and his friends sound like little devils! And if you conclude their escapades in just 20 chapters that would be nice for the author!!! So write into the dark!!! What happens to your writing with a shot of whiskey??????? Bad idea I am sure! Finish up, my friend, & celebrate with all you have planned for December with Bren waiting for you!!!!!!!!!! Phil
