The Fall of Netherea turns 4 years old!

I still can’t believe it, but it’s been four years since the release of The Fall of Netherea! It’s been quite a ride writing The Shaedon Resurgence trilogy, but knowing it took about five years of my life it still feels like quite an achievement and one I’ll always hold dear. What I love best is that I see the books pop up on my social media feeds and people keep discovering my scifi novels. A lot of my readers send me messages too, telling me how much they enjoyed the book and which characters are their favourites. It’s so great too see that many people have different favourites too, although in some cases it’s very hard for me to stay quiet and warn them not to get too attached to certain characters, haha.

The cover art of The Fall of Netherea. I absolutely love it still.

I started writing The Fall of Netherea almost five years ago. It was during a time where my old band Polydrone had just broken up and I kind of fell into a pit of non-creativity. Having all this pent up creativity I decided to put my energy into writing a novel. To me it was never a question of whether I would finish writing the novel, or whether I would get it published. I knew that, no matter what, I’d end up with a physical book in my hands. If I wasn’t able to find a publisher, I probably would have opted for self-publishing.

The Xoron Windmaster Räz Numera was one of the first characters I developed for this story. His pragmatic approach to everything clashes often with those around him.

Once I finished the manuscript, which took me close to a year, I decided to check my network to see if I knew any publishers. I got my hands on a list of all publishers in the Netherlands and checked all of their websites to see if they were a good match and eventually ended up with two offers for a contract. Reading through both contracts I decided to go with Celtica Publishing and that was definitely the best choice for me. The release of The Zar’aranos Deception in 2016 and The Xoron Redemption this year were quite a journey and having written an entire trilogy is something I’d never thought I’d ever do in my life!

Later this week Celtica Publishing will release their latest magazine and it will feature a giveaway so make sure to subscribe to that and keep an eye on my Facebook page too, because I intend to celebrate the birthday of my debut novel as well!

Happy reading!

Jeffrey

  1. Jeffrey, Well wishes on the fourth anniversary of the release of “The Fall of Netherea,” the first book of your trilogy, “The Shaedon Resurgence,” now completed in 2019. Dedicating five years to this project as an author was quite a commitment & effort!!! –It was like your doctoral dissertation as a writer!!! You are now Dr. Debris! I am so glad I purchased Book III in the last weeks at my old house because of what life has thrown at wife Geri & me since then. As I return to your book, in the last 100 pages anticipating quite an ending, obviously, reading it has become an oasis of “R&R”! My 24 & rising 5×8 inch note cards that I write on Book III as I read have been a savior to refresh my memory & pickup as the story-line changes scenes & returns! It is embarrassing that I have not read Book III as I did Books I & II as beach reads, literally. But your trilogy has been an education for me in sci-fi I will never forget. Never lose your euphoria for this literary accomplishment of yours no matter the number of books you write in your future. It was your beginning & what a start it has been. Right-on choosing Celtica as your publisher! Rianne Lampers has been a great partner for you!!! Wishing you the best on this occasion & into your future. Phil

    • Thank you so much for your kind words Phil! It really has been quite an adventure becoming a writer. Something I’d never have anticipated being in my future if you had asked me in my early twenties! Life can take some surprising turns, but having become a writer felt like a calling and I intend to add many more books to my bibliography 🙂

I’m really curious what your thoughts are regarding the ending of the trilogy and whether or not I’ve been able to shock or surprise you! It’s so nice to read that you’re finding the time you spend reading my books as R&R! That’s what I hope they are for all the people that read them 🙂

  2. And Jeffrey, these illustrations above & all the others are exquisitely unique!!! Forgive me for not recalling the name of your illustrator. The collaboration between you as author & your illustrator as artist are truly exceptional!!! Phil
